January 16 - January 20

Dear Mom and Dad:

Highlights of the week:
- learning about the Chinese zodiac
- the letter Tt
- Roots of Empathy
- Club Friday for AM class
-  Team Wonder has a student teacher!
- Blue/yellow Team learning all about snowflakes

In Team Wonder, Mrs. Green has joined our learning community. She is a student from Mount Royal University and we learned that she is going to teacher school to learn how to be a teacher. She will be with us until the end of April. We are very excited to teach her what she needs to know.

Did you know that I am a certain animal in the Chinese Zodiac. We read a book called "The Great Race" and learned about why there are 12 different animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Ask me to tell you which one I am. You can look it up here Chinese Zodiac Calculator. Ask me to tell you who won the race. Ask me to tell you why there is no year of the cat and why cats don't like rats!

I learned that T is a quiet tap dancing sound. Ask me to tell you what the letter says. When I make this sound, my tongue is tapping the back of my teeth. Ask me to tell you what I drew in my visual journal that started with a T.

In Roots of Empathy, we continue to talk about emotions, I am learning to identify my emotions as well as being able to recognize how others are feeling too. We learned that everyone has emotions, including moms, dads, grandparents, uncles, even my pet fish, dog or cat!

Chinese New Year's Eve is on Friday January 27. We have been learning all about Chinese New Year and it's traditions and customs. Ask me to tell you what the lucky color is. On Thursday Jan 26, AM class can come to school wearing RED.

On Friday January 27, PM class please wear RED!

Question of the week: What is your Chinese zodiac animal? You can post your family members' animals too!

Housekeeping:

On Thursday January 26 Kindergarten will be enjoying a Chinese Feast with our friends to celebrate Chinese New Year. We will be enjoying egg noodles with veggies, oranges and some tea (iced tea). This will be equivalent to a snack. If you would still like to send in a snack, you may do so but please do not be alarmed if they bring back their snack uneaten because they will love their teachers cooking so much :P

Friday January 27 - PM kindergarten will be hosting the Chinese New Year Assembly. PM Parents are welcome to come. Time TBA (it will be between 9am-12pm) PM parents will be notified by e-mail this week with all of the details.
