Weekly Blog:

Dear Mom and Dad:

Highlights of the week:
  • -       Terry Fox
  • -       Signs of fall
  • -       A square can be
  • -       Thursday Books
  • -       Inline skating continues this week
Ask me to tell you who Terry Fox is. We talked a lot about him this week and learned that he is a Canadian hero.

On Wednesday we did our Terry Fox run. Thank you to the parents who met us at the fence and cheered us on! It was so exciting and we felt like Terry Fox and how he had a lot of people who encouraged him along the way.

I brought home a blue “Thursday book” on Thursday. Please read the note inside and help me complete the activity over the weekend. I will be bringing this book home every Thursday and need to return it the following week to get my next activity.

Question of the week: Post on the blog one thing you know about Terry Fox.

Love,
Kindergarten

Red/Green Team: We would like to come up with a class name that represents both the red and green team together since we make up one group. We would love to hear your ideas! Please post on the blog your ideas.

Stone Soup

Dear Mom and Dad:

What another great week we had!

Some highlights of the week:
-Making and eating stone soup
-International Peace Day
-Beautiful stuff inquiry
-In-line skating started for some classes
-Open house

Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped us on Tuesday and thank you to the students who brought in vegetables to add to our soup. What a great soup we made!

It was international peace day on Wednesday. Ask me to tell you what peace means. We will be talking about peace a lot as Cranston promotes peace education. Kindergarten is a peaceful community!

I brought home a letter and special bag in my folder on Wednwsday. We are going to investigate and discover "What is beautiful?" We read a book called "Beautiful oops!" And are learning to look at the world in a whole new way. Did you know that all of our trash goes to a landfill? There are even places in the ocean called "trash island" where there is garbage everywhere! My job in the next couple of weeks is to find some "treasures" in our home or in nature and bring it to school in my bag by October 10. We will also need jars and containers to store our beautiful stuff. Please send these with me instead of throwing them away. Mrs. Ly went through her "junk drawer" and found things like buttons, screws, bolts, keys and wire. Ms.Cvach went through our class recycling bin and found a clean jello container, bottle cap lids and a snack tray that could be used to store things! Please help me with this :)

It was great seeing all of you at our open house on Thursday evening. We are so grateful to have a great parent community this year! We hope your child introduced you to our classroom turtle Shelly. We hope everyone had a chance to write a hope and dream for your child and add it to our classroom loom. If you missed this, simply write a message on a strip of paper, send it with your child to school and we will add it to the loom.

Question of the week: Parents, what was your favorite part of the open house?

Love,
Kindergarten

Housekeeping:

Please have your child dressed appropriately for outside weather.
Next week we will be learning about who Terry Fox is. We will be going on a kindergarten Terry Fox Run next Wednesday September 28. We will be walking to the playground near the windmill and walking back. Parents can come cheer us on at the fence in the open field if you would like! Just look for us with the Canadian Flag.

AM class Terry Fox Run: starts at 8:30am
PM class Terry Fox Run: starts at 12:15pm

BLOG OF THE WEEK:

Dear Mom and Dad:

What a great week we had! I am becoming more familiar with the routines of my classroom and learning what my job is at school. This week we talked about what a line was. Ask me to tell you what it is. Did you know that lines are everywhere in our world? Ask me to find some lines for you. We later learned that when a line connects, it makes a shape! We are taking a closer look at what a circle is this week. Click here to listen to the circle song. I can sing it with you!

We practiced drawing many different kinds of lines and discovered that lines come in all different shapes and sizes.

Ask me to tell you about some of the centers I visited and who I have played with.

We also got a change to go on the playground and enjoy some fresh air with my friends.

Question of the week: Post on the blog some circles that you found? Where did you find them?

Love,

Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten

Dear Mom and Dad:

If you are reading this it means that you have found our blog! Yippee! This blog will be updated every FRIDAY. Please check it each week to learn about what I did at school and to get important information for upcoming activities and events.

Hooray! I survived my first week of kindergarten! Ask me to tell you what color group I am in and what my teacher’s name is.

This week we have been working on community building and getting to know one another and the routines of our classroom. I know that through practice I will have the routine down pat!

Ask me to tell you what centre I went to during centre time. This week we focused on building our social skills and getting to know one another.

Ask me to tell you about the gummy bear song. We love to dance and sing in Kindergarten.

This week we also met, Mrs. McBride our music teacher, and Mrs. Quilley our gym teacher.

Question of the week: In the comment section, post on the blog what is your favorite part of kindergarten so far?

Love,

Kindergarten

Housekeeping:

For inline skating, please send your child in loose clothing on the days of their skating time. Please send your child with their own helmet.
