What another great week we had!
Some highlights of the week:
-Making and eating stone soup
-International Peace Day
-Beautiful stuff inquiry
-In-line skating started for some classes
-Open house
Thank you to all the parent volunteers that helped us on Tuesday and thank you to the students who brought in vegetables to add to our soup. What a great soup we made!
It was international peace day on Wednesday. Ask me to tell you what peace means. We will be talking about peace a lot as Cranston promotes peace education. Kindergarten is a peaceful community!
I brought home a letter and special bag in my folder on Wednwsday. We are going to investigate and discover "What is beautiful?" We read a book called "Beautiful oops!" And are learning to look at the world in a whole new way. Did you know that all of our trash goes to a landfill? There are even places in the ocean called "trash island" where there is garbage everywhere! My job in the next couple of weeks is to find some "treasures" in our home or in nature and bring it to school in my bag by October 10. We will also need jars and containers to store our beautiful stuff. Please send these with me instead of throwing them away. Mrs. Ly went through her "junk drawer" and found things like buttons, screws, bolts, keys and wire. Ms.Cvach went through our class recycling bin and found a clean jello container, bottle cap lids and a snack tray that could be used to store things! Please help me with this :)
It was great seeing all of you at our open house on Thursday evening. We are so grateful to have a great parent community this year! We hope your child introduced you to our classroom turtle Shelly. We hope everyone had a chance to write a hope and dream for your child and add it to our classroom loom. If you missed this, simply write a message on a strip of paper, send it with your child to school and we will add it to the loom.
Question of the week: Parents, what was your favorite part of the open house?
Love,
Kindergarten

Next week we will be learning about who Terry Fox is. We will be going on a kindergarten Terry Fox Run next Wednesday September 28. We will be walking to the playground near the windmill and walking back. Parents can come cheer us on at the fence in the open field if you would like! Just look for us with the Canadian Flag.
