Monday February 13 - Wednesday February 15

Dear Mom and Dad:

Highlights of the week:

- Team Wonder: Learning about Henry Matisse and Observing the Trout
- Orienteering in gym
- Valentine's Day card exchange
- My first Carnivale!

It was a short week but a fun fulfilled week with some exciting activities. I enjoyed decorating my bag and box for my special valentine's cards. I can maybe read some of the names on the cards for you. I had my first Carnivale experience! It was so much fun. Ask me to tell you who I buddied up with. It may have been someone from the other diad. We all enjoyed doing winter sports activities. Ask me to tell you what my favorite station was. A huge thank you to our parent council who provided us with hot chocolate after the event!

In gym, we have been doing something called "Orienteering". It is where I go outside and have to look for certain locations using a school map. This is a great skill for me to have, we all became hunters. Ask me to tell you how I did this.

Team Wonder has been learning about snow and why it is important. We learned that snow is important for our lakes and rivers which means it is important for out trout that we are raising in the school. I am becoming a trout expert. Ask me to tell you what stage the trout are in their life cycle. They are no longer in their baskets anymore. Ask me to tell you what they look like. It is pretty exciting to watch them grow. We will be releasing them once they get as big as our pinky finger. Information of where and when the fish release is happening will be posted near the end of April. We will need to start feeding the trout fish feed. Ask me to tell you why we did not have to feed them before when they were in the basket. AM Team Wonder connected with 11 other school that also are raising trout. We connected to a webinar that was live from the Bow Habitat Station. It was like we were having a virtual fieldtrip! I learned about the life cycle of a trout and where they Bow Habitat Station gets the eggs from. We also learned how they clean them and count them.

Team wonder learned all about Henry Matisse and how he drew with scissors! Ask me to tell you about his masterpieces. I made my very own masterpiece using just scissors and glue.

No school until Tuesday Feb 21.

Have a great long weekend and enjoy the weather!

Love,
Kindergarten

 On Monday February 27:
Kindergarten will be celebrating our 100th day of school!
We are asking each child to bring 100 things to school in a small zip lock bag with their name on it. We will be using these items to practice grouping and counting to 100 using different strategies.  This item should be small and not roll off a table.  We will be doing this activity on Monday February 27 but feel free to start sending them in next week.

Some ideas and examples of things your child can bring are:
100 cherrios
100 macoroni pastas
100 smarties
100 marshmallows
100 pennies
100 dried beans

Please have our child count with you! We have been learning a lot about numbers 1 to 10.  Your child should be able to count to 10 one by one, counting each object. Challenge your child to count by tens once they have their group of 10s.

On Monday February 27, because we are at our 100th day of kindergarten, we would like your child to come to school dressed as if they are 100 years old! This is completely optional. Please do not go out and buy anything. You may have some items in your home you can use. Be creative! We welcome it all, accessories, props, have fun with it! Here are some ideas.
-       use baby powder for hair
-     vest
-       fake glasses
-       a cardigan
-       suspenders
-       pearls
-       scarf
-       hat
-       tie
-       bowtie

A reminder that Team Wonder's reading incentive program continues! The Calgary Flames have a program called "Reading....Give it A Shot!" Every Monday, I can receive Calgary flames trading cards, or stickers if I log in to Raz Kids. I received my login information many months ago. If I have lost my login card, I can let my teacher know and I can get my login information.
